WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s golf gave the home fans some drama with a pair of wins to capture the inaugural Bear Brawl at Ridgewood Country Club on Monday.

Luke Dossey sank a long birdie putt to defeat UTSA’s David Harrison to secure a 1-up victory on the 19th hole of their match and clinch Baylor’s third point to claim the championship.

Mark Reppe sank a putt of similar length in extra holes to beat ACU in the morning matches and followed that up by taking care of business and winning his afternoon match. Reppe won 4&3 over UTSA's Hunter Bott, and gave the Bears their first point of the afternoon.

Brandon Hoff also got the Bears off to a strong start with a 6&4 victory over UTSA’s Jack Wehman. The win was a resounding bounce back after dropping his morning match against ACU's Francisco Osio 3&1.

Johnny Keefer made a clutch par putt on No. 17 against ACU in the morning to help earn the Bears a spot in the championship match. In another tight battle Monday afternoon, Keefer fell to Christian Fanfelle, who clinched the only full point of the afternoon for the Roadrunners, 1-up.

In the morning match, Tyler Isenhart made a strong statement, winning 4&3 over ACU’s Jake Bay. He followed that up by taking control of his match on the back nine against Michael Rome of UTSA. Rome made a furious rally to force extra holes with Isenhart, but once Dossey won to clinch the match, the Rome-Isenhart match was declared a tie.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Head coach Mike McGraw — " This team needed something good to happen. We haven't had a lot of really special things happen this spring, so it was really nice. UTSA is a very representative team; their top three players are really good. It was very fun to see Luke on the 18th — he had to get it up and down to send it to a playoff out of the bunker — and he did and then made a great birdie putt on the playoff hole. And Mark in the morning, to make that 25-footer. If he doesn't make that, he loses that match, and we lose this morning. So there were a couple of clutch things that happened and but this team needed something — a little shot in the arm —, and I believe this was it.”
