PHOENIX, Ariz. – Baylor women’s golf shot the third-lowest round of the day with a 2-under 268 to pull into a tie for second with No. 2 Oregon on Saturday at the PING Arizona State Invitational.

Gurleen Kaur’s 6-under 66 was the best round of the day and jumped her 32 spots into a tie for fourth after 36 holes. Kaur shot 66 for the fifth time in her career and finished one shot off the school record of 65 she shares with eight other golfers.

After a bogey at the opening hole, Kaur responded with birdies on four of her final six holes on the front nine for a 2-under 34 after nine holes. The senior then played Nos. 12-15 at 4-under highlighted by an eagle two at the par-4 13th.

“Gurleen's round was great, and we are very proud of her,” head coach Jay Goble said. “It seems like as the weather warms up, her game does as well, and I believe we will see some great things out of her the next few weeks

Britta Snyder shot under par for the third-consecutive round with a 1-under 71. Snyder opened with birdies at Nos. 4 and 5, and after a double bogey at the par-3 8th, she bounced back with a birdie at No. 9 to get back into red figures. Following a bogey at No. 10, Snyder played steady golf and added a birdie at No. 15 to get in the clubhouse in a tie for seventh.

Addie Baggarly had another solid showing on Saturday with a 2-over 74. The graduate transfer fell to 3-over through seven holes, but battled back with birdies at the ninth and one more at the 13th before a bogey at No. 17 put her in a tie for 37th entering the final round.

After a 3-under 69 on Friday, Rosie Belsham shot a 3-over 75 to sit at even par in a tie for 18th. The sophomore bounced back from a pair of bogeys at Nos. 4 and 6 with a birdie at No. 9. But bogeys at Nos. 15 and 17 put her at 3-over on the day for Baylor’s final counting score.

BaiMai Seema shot a 5-over 77 and enters the final round tied for 71st place at 11-over.

Arizona State used a 13-under 275 to get to 21-under par for the tournament, 17 shots clear of the Bears and Ducks. At 8-under par, Arizona State’s Ashley Menne leads by one over her teammate, Alexandra Fosterling, by four shots over Kaur, and by five shots over Snyder.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Saturday’s 66 tied the second-lowest score of Gurleen Kaur’s career, and was her lowest round of the season.

• Baylor’s par-4 scoring average of 4.00 trails only Arizona State through 36 holes.

• BU’s two eagles this week are tied for the second-most in the field.

• The Bears have opened with consecutive sub-par rounds for the first time since the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in October of 2021.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Head coach Jay Goble: “I feel we have played solid for two days, but we still have some left in the tank. This golf course gets a little tricky because of how firm it gets, and unlike most courses, the greens actually get faster as the day goes along.”

WHAT’S NEXT
