PHOENIX, Ariz. – Baylor women’s golf is tied for third after a 2-under 286 in round one of the PING ASU Invitational at Papago Golf Club on Friday. It was the first sub-par opening round for the Bears since the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Oct. 25, 2021.

After a bit of a slow start, Baylor made up some serious ground on the back nine, with all four counting scores at par or better on the inward nine.

Rosie Belsham finished Friday in a tie for third. The sophomore suffered a bogey at the par-4 third, but that would be the only blemish on her card in round one. She recorded birdies at Nos. 6, 9, 13 and 18 for a 3-under 69, her first round in the 60's since a final-round 68 at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.

No. 1 player Britta Snyder finished a shot back of Belsham in a tie for eighth with a 2-under 70 on Friday, her second-straight round under par. Snyder came out of the gates with a birdie at the first, bogeyed the third, then added three more birdies at Nos. 5, 7 and 13 before a bogey at the 16th.

Addie Baggarly finished in a tie for 26th after round one thanks to a 1-over 73. The Florida transfer opened with four-straight pars, followed by bogeys on three of her next four holes for a 3-over 39 on the front-nine. She followed that four-hole stretch with eight straight pars before putting an exclamation point on her day with an eagle two at the par-4 18th hole.

Gurleen Kaur started with a pair of bogeys on her first two holes of the day. After a third bogey at the par-4 11th, the senior responded with birdies on two of the next three holes to get back to 1-over par. A bogey at the last saw Kaur finish with a 2-over 74 and settle into a tie for 36th after round one.

Baimai Seema shot a 6-over 78 in round one. After a 5-over 41 on the front nine, the freshman played the inward half in 1-over par with a 37 to finish in a tie for 70th.

Host No. 9 Arizona State leads by five shots over top-ranked Stanford following an 8-under 280 in round one. ASU’s Alexandra Fosterling holds the individual lead by a shot over New Mexico’s Napat Lertsadwattana after a 6-under 66.

HIGHLIGHTS

•      Baylor and Northwestern led the field in par-4 scoring average with a 4.02 in round one.

•      BU’s 61 pars were the second-most in the field on Friday.

•      All four counting scores for Baylor beat the field average of 74.46 on Friday.

•      Rosie Belsham’s 3.80 par-4 scoring average tied for third-best in the field.

•      Addie Baggarly made 14 pars on Friday, which tied for third-most.

STAT OF THE DAY

Addie Baggarly’s eagle on the par-4 18th hole was one of just five eagles on Friday and was the only one at No. 18.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Bears will play round two of the PING/ASU Invitational on Saturday morning. Baimai Seema will lead off the No. 1 led off by Baimai Seema at 10:00 a.m. CT. Gurleen Kaur will follow her at 10:11 a.m., just ahead of Addie Baggarly at 10:22 a.m. Britta Snyder and Rosie Belsham will round things out for BU at 10:33 a.m. and 10:44 a.m., respectively.
