PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – Baylor women’s golf is tied for 14th place after a team total of 20-over 204 in round one of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.

On Sunday, Freshman Antonia Matte shot Baylor’s low round of the day with a 4-over 75. The Santiago, Chile, native, opened her tournament on the back nine and had a couple of birdies at Nos. 11 and 14, book-ending a bogey and a double-bogey at Nos. 12 and 13. Following a double at the par-4 18th, Matte birdied Nos. 2 and 9 on the way to a 1-over 36 on her inward nine.

On a difficult day for scoring, BU’s No. 1 player, Britta Snyder, played a steady round with three bogeys on her opening nine at Nos. 12, 15 and 17. After a double bogey on No. 4 and a bogey on No. 5, Snyder closed with a birdie and three pars to finish the round in a tie for 43rd with a 5-over 76.

Fellow sophomore Rosie Belsham also finished with a 76 on Sunday. Sitting at 3-over through four holes, Belsham responded with a birdie at the par-4 14th but bogeyed the 18th to shoot a 3-over 39 on her outward nine. Turning towards the inward half, Belsham carded eight-straight pars before a double at the last dropped her to +5 for the tournament.

Starting on No. 10, senior Gurleen Kaur battled her way to an even-par 36 on her first nine, responding to a pair of bogeys at Nos. 13 and 15, with a couple of birdies at Nos. 14 and 16. However, six bogeys on the inward half would drop Kaur into a tie for 56th with a 6-over 77 in round one.

Graduate transfer Addie Baggarly made her stroke-play debut with the Bears with an 8-over 79, putting her in a tie for 72nd after 18 holes.

Kent State held the tournament lead on day one with a 2-over 286.
