WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball outfielder Jared McKenzie has been named to the Perfect Game/Rawlings 2022 Preseason All-America Third Team, as previously announced by the publication.

McKenzie is one of 54 honorees, which includes 10 hitters and eight pitchers on each of the three teams.

The third-year sophomore from Round Rock, Texas, hit .383 last season with 10 home runs and 44 RBI. He led the Bears with 82 hits, 62 runs, four triples and a 1.079 OPS in 2021 and is currently the all-time leader in batting average in program history (.389).

McKenzie was previously named a 2021 Third-Team All-American by Perfect Game/Rawlings and was a Second-Team Freshman All-American selection by the NCBWA. He also received Freshman All-America status from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper in 2020. Earlier this offseason, he was named a preseason second-team selection by CBN.

Five different Big 12 schools were represented on the 2022 preseason teams. Texas led the way with two selections, while Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech joined Baylor with one pick each.

OSU right-handed pitcher Justin Campbell and TTU second baseman Jace Jung were named to the first team, UT designated hitter Ivan Melendez and left-handed pitcher Pete Hansen were selected to the second team, while TCU lefty Austin Krob joined McKenzie on the third team.

Baylor will open its 2022 season against Maryland on Feb. 18, at Baylor Ballpark in Waco.
