CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – Baylor men’s golf is in a tie for 10th after a 1-over 285 in the first round of the Cabo Collegiate at the Cove Club in Los Cabos, Mexico.

Following a birdie on his opening hole of the day at the par-3 14th hole, freshman Zach Heffernan played his opening nine holes at 3-under par. He shot 3-over par on his inward half to clinch his career-best round of 71 and his first-career round of par or better.

A double-bogey six at the par-4 15th put No. 1 player Johnny Keefer at 4-over through his first six holes. The junior from San Antonio stormed back playing his next four holes at four-under-par, including an eagle two at the par-4 first. Keefer played his final eight holes of the day at even-par to get into the clubhouse with an even-par 71, his fifth round of par or better in his last seven rounds.

Sophomore Luke Morgan continued his hot play of late with birdies at his first and last holes of the day en route to an even-par 71 of his own. The Guthrie, Okla., native, has now shot par or better in all four of his stroke-play rounds this spring.

Fellow sophomore Trey Bosco tied his best round of the season with a 1-over 72 on Sunday. After an opening bogey at the par-5 13th, Bosco rebounded nicely with a birdie and his team-leading second eagle of the season over the next three holes to get back into red figures. After spending most of his day under par, Bosco bogeyed three of his final four holes to finish 1-over and tied for 44th.

Joining Bosco at 1-over for the day was his teammate, Mark Reppe. The senior was under par through four holes until a triple-bogey seven at the par-4 15th moved him to 2-over. He battled back and played his next 11 holes in 2-under before a bogey on his 16th hole of the day at the par-4 ninth.

Oklahoma State holds the first-round lead with its four counting scores at par or better, spearheaded by the tournament leader, Brian Stark, at 6-under.
