HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Baylor women’s golf will make its fifth appearance at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Monday morning at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

The Bears finished eighth in their last appearance at Long Cove Club in March of 2020, in what turned out to be the final event of the COVID-19-shortened season of 2019-20. Head coach Jay Goble is thrilled to be back in the low country and play this event again.

“Hilton Head and Long Cove are two fantastic places,” Goble said. “It’s a great venue, a great tournament, and it’s at a great club. For the University of South Carolina and Darius Rucker to put this thing on and have it televised, it will be a really special deal for all the players and teams involved, including us. So, we're thrilled to be involved with it.”

The Darius Rucker will be the first all-women's regular-season collegiate golf tournament to be televised on the Golf Channel, and Goble is happy to see the network showcase the women’s game.

“To be part of the first one that's fully televised only for women's golf is fantastic,” Goble said. “I think it's a great opportunity to show how great women's college golf is, and you probably couldn't have picked a better venue.”

The Bears will look to put their best foot forward, with Gurleen Kaur playing at the No. 1 spot for the fifth-straight event. This will be the senior's fourth trip to the Darius Rucker, with her best finish coming in 2019 when she finished eighth. Kaur has shot par or better in each of her last seven rounds and 10 of her last 12.

Antonia Matte will play out of the No. 2 spot at Long Cove this week, her highest spot in the line-up since she played in the second spot at the Stephens Cup in October. The freshman from Chile will look to build on a pair of even-par 72's last week at the Moon Golf Invitational.

Rosie Belsham will be making her first start at the Darius Rucker and playing in the No. 3 spot. The sophomore notched a top-10 the last time the Bears were in the low country at the season-opening Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C., where she finished tied for sixth.

Britta Snyder will look to jump-start her spring from the No. 4 position for the Bears this week. Snyder also finished in a tie for sixth at the Cougar Classic to open the season.

Freshman Baimai Seema will get her first stroke-play start of the spring out of the No. 5 position for Baylor. Seema has not been in the lineup for a stroke play event since the Rainbow Wahine Invitational last October, where she notched her career-best finish, a tie for 12th.
