Baylor MGOLF Finishes Fourth at Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas – The Baylor men’s golf team finished fourth at the Border Olympics in Laredo on Tuesday with a 54-hole total of 8-over 872.

Luke Morgan fired a career-best three rounds at par or better on the way to a 1-under 215 and a fifth-place finish for the week. On Tuesday, the sophomore's even-par 72 was one of just nine rounds at par or better in the field for the final round. Morgan’s previous career-best finish was a tie for 22nd at the Rice Intercollegiate on Jan. 25, 2021.

Senior Mark Reppe carded BU's second-best score of the day with a 1-over 73 in the final round to finish in a tie for 14th. After three-straight bogeys to start his round, Reppe bounced back strong, playing his next 15 holes at 2-under par. Tuesday marked the seventh top-25 finish of Reppe’s career.

Trey Bosco had a solid finish to his tournament with a 2-over 74 to finish in a tie for 62nd. It was Bosco’s second counting score of the tournament. After his fifth hole of the second round on Monday, Bosco played his final 31 holes at even par.

Drew Wrightson also recorded his second counting score for the week with a 7-over 79 on Tuesday. He finished in a tie for 55th, which was his career-best finish in three tournaments as a member of the Baylor lineup.

Johnny Keefer picked up the sixth top-10 finish of his career after a 9-over 81 in the final round put him in a tie for ninth.

Junior Tyler Isenhart shot the fifth-best score among the individuals with a 12-over 228, putting him into a tie for 43rd in his second start of the season.

Freshman Zach Heffernan wrapped up his first tournament as an individual with a 9-over 81 on Tuesday. His 54-hole total of 18-over 234 put him in a tie for 70th for the week.

The University of Houston won the tournament with a 54-hole total of 852, 15 shots better than second-place Louisiana Tech (867). Lamar edged Baylor by just three strokes with an 870, while the Bears finished 10 shots better than fifth-place Sam Houston (883).

HIGHLIGHTS

•       Luke Morgan was one of only three players in the 86-player field to shoot par or better in all three rounds this week.

•       Morgan notched his career-best 54-hole score with a 215 this week.

•       Morgan was tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring with a 2.92.

•       Johnny Keefer led the field in par-3 scoring for the week with a 2.67.

•       Keefer had the third-most birdies in the field this week with 12.

•       Mark Reppe had the fourth-most birdies in the field with 13.

•       Baylor's 48 birdies were the second-most in the field.

•       Tyler Isenhart’s 37 pars tied for the fourth-most in the field.

"We didn't get the result we wanted, but I saw some real bright spots this week. For the fourth-straight stroke play event, Johnny Keefer was in the top five through 36-holes. His game is good. I was particularly pleased with Luke Morgan's top-five finish."
