LAREDO, Texas – Baylor men’s golf sits in a tie for second through 36 holes at the Border Olympics after firing a 2-under par 574 Monday on the first day of the 54-hole tournament.

Johnny Keefer holds the individual lead by a stroke after 36 holes, thanks to a pair of rounds in the 60's. The junior from San Antonio started hot in the morning with a 4-under par 68, which put him in a tie for first with two other players. He followed that up with a 3-under 69 in the second round, highlighted by a bogey-free back nine.

Sophomore Luke Morgan made his first start in a stroke-play event this season and responded by opening the tournament with a 1-under 71. Morgan backed up his strong start with a steady, even-par 72 to sit in 10th place after day one.

After opening with a 4-over 76, senior Mark Reppe bounced back with a 2-under 70 in his second round, one of three rounds at par or better for the Bears on Monday afternoon. Reppe started with a birdie on his first hole of the second round, and after a couple of bogeys at Nos. 5 and 7, he responded with three-straight birdies to get back into red figures. A 1-under 35 on his inward half pulled Reppe into a tie for 22nd place after 36 holes.

Freshman Drew Wrightson made his first start in the lineup since mid-September and came out strong on Monday morning with a 1-over 73. After bogeys on two of his first three holes, Wrightson bounced back and played the remaining 15 holes at 1-under par to notch BU’s final counting score of the morning session. The freshman finished with a 7-over 79 in the afternoon session and sits in a tie for 53rd heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Trey Bosco also made his first start in the lineup since mid-September, firing a 3-over 75 in the afternoon round, highlighted by an eagle on his final hole of the day at the par-5 1st. Bosco played his final 13 holes of the day at 2-under par to give the Bears their fourth and final counting score of the afternoon session.

Baylor also had a pair of players competing as individuals, led by junior Tyler Isenhart, with a 7-over 151 on Monday, putting him in a tie for 46th place. Isenhart’s 151 was the fourth-best score among the individuals competing.

Freshman Zach Heffernan was right behind Isenhart with a 9-over 153 through 36 holes, putting him in a tie for 58th place.

The Bears enter Tuesday’s final round seven shots back of Houston who is leading the tournament at nine-under par.
