WACO, Texas – The Baylor volleyball squad closed out its annual Green & Gold match with a Green Team win on Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center.

The Green team, led by assistant coach Joshua Walker, won 25-20, 19-25, 25-15, 26-24 over Yajaira Cadet’s Gold squad, both under Ryan McGuyre’s eye.

All 15 Baylor student-athletes saw time on the floor and intermixed between both teams.

It was not the first time the six newcomers got a taste of wearing the green and gold, with four of them playing in the spring matches.

Prior to the start of the scrimmage, the team heard about the legacy of the late Molly Martinsen, for whom the Baylor volleyball locker room is named for. Her mother, Jennifer, a BU volleyball letterwinner, and others close to her told the team of her legacy and her aspiration to be a Baylor Bear one day.

Mitch Casteel, former Baylor volleyball coach, said of Molly, “She was not good, she was not great, she was a phenom. She was a competitor, especially in her last days. She would be 22 years old today, and there’s no doubt she would be here and on this team.”

BU will face Texas A&M on Saturday to conclude the preseason matches in an exhibition with the Aggies. The match will begin at 6 p.m. in the Ferrell Center and admission is free.
