HOCKLEY, Texas – Baylor women’s golf shot the round of the day, a 6-over 290, on Sunday to finish with a score of 27-over 879 and tie Oklahoma State for 2nd at the Big 12 Championship.

A tie for second marks BU’s fourth-straight top-three finish at the Big 12 Championship and the highest finish since a solo second in 2019.

Baylor’s Addie Baggarly earned All-Tournament Team honors with a second-place finish, a shot behind Oklahoma State’s Lianna Bailey. On a day where the stroke average was 75.67, the graduate transfer from Florida turned in one of only two sub-par rounds. Baggarly started the round with seven straight pars before a birdie and a bogey at Nos. 8 and 9 put her at even-par through nine. Her strong play continued on the back nine with eight straight pars to climb steadily within two shots of Bailey at the 18th. Baggarly made a birdie at the 18th to get back into red figures, turning in a 1-under 70, her second under-par round of the week.

Rosie Belsham also captured All-Tournament Team distinction with a solo seventh-place finish thanks to a 1-over 72 on Sunday. The sophomore suffered an early bogey at No. 4 but bounced back with a birdie at No. 5 to get back to even par. A second bogey at No. 7 took her back over par en route to a 1-over 36 front nine. Belsham made nine pars on the back nine, part of a stretch that saw her make 11-straight to finish the round. Seventh place is a new career-best finish in the Big 12 Championship for Belsham, who finished 18th in her debut in 2021.

Hannah Karg also turned in her career-best performance in the Big 12 Championship with a tie for 15th on Sunday. The junior made an early birdie at No. 3, but a bogey at No. 6 and a double-bogey at No. 9 dropped her back to 2-over for the round. Karg ran into trouble again at the par-4 12th with a triple-bogey seven, followed by three more bogeys to fall to eight over on the day through 17 holes. At the last, a birdie gave Karg her second-best finish of the season, trailing only a tie for 14th at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.

Gurleen Kaur finished strong with her best round of the weekend, a 1-over 72, on Sunday to also finish in a tie for 15th. After a bogey at the opening hole, Kaur bounced back with a birdie at No. 3 to get back to even par. A bogey at No. 7 saw Kaur drop to 1-over, where she finished the front nine. She made nine pars on the back nine for her first bogey-free nine of the championship.

Britta Snyder finished in a tie for 19th following a 5-over 76 in the final round. Snyder was hot early with birdies in three of her first five holes, but a bogey at No. 8 and a double-bogey at No. 9 put her at 1-over on the front side. After a bogey at 10, she birdied No. 11 to get back to one over, but had bogeys at Nos. 14 and 16 sandwiched around a double-bogey at 15 that put her at five-over for the day and 12 over for the championship.

Texas held off Baylor and Oklahoma State for the team title with a three-day total of 24-over 876.

HIGHLIGHTS

•      Addie Baggarly (2nd), Rosie Belsham (7th) and Hannah Karg (T15th) recorded personal-best finishes in the Big 12 tournament.

•      Baggarly notched her best finish since a win at the Sugarbowl Intercollegiate with Florida in 2019.

•      Baggarly tied for the best par-4 scoring average (3.96) and led the field with 41 pars.

•      Rosie Belsham was second in the field with 39 pars.

•      As a team, BU made 179 pars, 15 more than second-place Texas.

•      The Bears led the field in par-5 scoring average at 4.90.

•      Baylor notched a fifth-straight top-5 finish at the Big 12 Championship.

Head coach Jay Goble: “They fought really hard today,” he said. “to come out here on a difficult golf course in difficult conditions, fight for every shot and shoot the low round of the day, I'm proud of them, and I think that this was good momentum going into regionals and nationals. Yesterday was a bit of a fluke. It was very windy, conditions were abnormal, and we just played badly. Obviously, it hurts to be a little short, but I think this team is really solid. We can get going on any golf course in America. We can shoot good scores, and I believe this is only the beginning of a good run for the next month.”
