PHOENIX, Ariz.– Baylor men's golf finished an eventful first day at the Thunderbird Collegiate in eighth place with a 36-hole score of 1-over 569 at Papago Golf Club on Friday.

The Bears climbed as high as fifth place during the second round after a torrid start where four of the five players in the lineup combined to play the first hole at 5-under before finishing round two with a 1-under 283.

Johnny Keefer continued his great play with a pair of rounds at par or better on Friday, highlighted by a 4-under 67 in the second round pulling him into a tie for 15th. Keefer started with three pars before jumpstarting things with a hole-in-one at the par-3 fourth. He made three more birdies on the front side to finish his outward nine with a 5-under 31. The junior shot a 1-over 36 on his inward half to finish off a 67, to go with his even-par 71 in round one.

Mark Reppe finished day one in a tie for 28th at even par through two rounds. On Friday morning, he opened the event with a 1-over 72 with three birdies and four bogeys. Round two started with a bang for the senior, where an eagle-birdie start put him at 3-under through two holes. A double-bogey at No. 4 and a bogey at No. 8, around a birdie at No. 7, put him at 1-under through nine holes. He played his inward half at even-par to finish as one of three sub-par rounds for the Bears in the second round.

Zach Heffernan, playing as an individual this week, sits in a tie for 43rd at 2-over through two rounds. He opened his tournament with a bogey-double-bogey start but rebounded to play his final 16 holes at 1-under. The freshman tied a career-best in round two with a 71 on the strength of five birdies.

Luke Morgan is tied for 59th entering Saturday's final round, thanks to a 1-under 70 on Friday afternoon in the second round. Morgan went out with a birdie at No. 3 and a bogey at No. 8 to finish with an even-par 36 before a 1-under second nine finished off his best round of the season. He opened with a 5-over 76 in round one.

Luke Dossey is in a tie for 63rd, sitting at 5-over through two rounds. The junior led the Bears after round one as the only player in the lineup under par, thanks to four birdies in a six-hole stretch between Nos. 8-13. He started strong in the second round with an eagle at the par-5 first en route to a 2-under front nine. But an 8-over final nine dropped him to 6-over for the round and 5-over for the championship.

Drew Wrightson shot a 7-over 149 on Friday to sit in a tie for 69th. He played his first seven holes at even par with birdies at Nos. 1 and 7, but four bogeys put him at two-over through nine. The freshman rebounded to play his final nine holes at even par to shoot a 73, tying his second-best score as a member of the lineup this year. He finished his day with a 5-over 76 in round two.

Arizona State leads after two rounds at 19-under par. BU is one-shot back of 7th-place SMU and 11 shots out of the top-5.
