Baylor Women’s Golf in Fifth Place Heading into Final Round of Schooner Fall Classic
Kaur and Matte Climb into the Top-Five as Individuals

Norman, Oklahoma – On a windy day at Belmar Golf Club, the Baylor women’s golf team is in fifth place after shooting an 11-over par 571.

Freshman Antonia Matte and senior Gurleen Kaur led the way for Baylor and are currently tied for 4th as individuals shooting identical 1-under 139’s through 36 holes.
“Today was a very difficult day,” Head Coach Jay Goble said. “Gurleen and Antonia played smart. They hit it in fairways, they hit it in the middle of greens. They played really smart.”

Rosie Belsham, despite not feeling 100-percent, opened the tournament with an even par-70 in the morning round. Belsham is currently tied for 47th as an individual heading into the final round on Monday morning.

Junior Hannah Karg is tied for 40th entering Monday after a 6-over 146 highlighted by a 1-over par 71 in the first round on Sunday morning.

Sophomore Britta Snyder is tied for 60th after shooting an 11-over 151 but finished strong playing her final three holes in one under par.

Oklahoma State enters the final round with an 18-shot lead over second-place Illinois. Baylor is within four shots of the second-place Illini.

HIGHLIGHTS

·       Antonia Matte and Gurleen Kaur were two of just six players who finished under par on a windy day in Norman.

·       Kaur was 3-under on the par 5’s which was second-best in the field through 36-holes.

·       As a team, Baylor played the par-5’s in a total of 2-under, second only to Oklahoma State.

·       Antonia Matte’s seven birdies were tied for third-most in the field

·       Britta Snyder recorded six birdies which were tied for the fourth-most in the field

STAT OF THE DAY

Freshman Antonia Matte has played five rounds in her collegiate career, and all five have been even-par or better.

Baylor will play alongside TCU and Texas State on Monday going off the No. 1 Tee beginning at 8:40 a.m. Britta Snyder will lead things off for Baylor followed by Rosie Belsham at 9:50 a.m. Hannah Karg will go off the first tee at 10:00 a.m. followed by Gurleen Kaur at 10:10 a.m. Antonia Matte will play out of the anchor position.
