Bears Have Claimed Two of the Three Match Play Championships

HOCKLEY, Texas – Baylor men’s golf returns to the Golf Club of Houston Oaks to defend their Big 12 Match Play Championship title.

The Bears’ win in 2020 was their second win in the three-year history of the event. Head coach Mike McGraw is excited to get back to a place where the program has experienced a lot of success.

“I am really looking forward to this event,” McGraw said. “We have had success here in the past, so my guys are very excited about returning to Houston Oaks.”

The tournament will consist of five sessions over a three-day span. The first four sessions will be pool play, where the seventh-seeded Bears will face No. 2 seed Oklahoma State, No. 3 seed Texas, No. 6 seed TCU and No. 10 seed Iowa State. In pool play, teams will get three points for a win, one point for a tie and zero points for a loss.
At the conclusion of pool play, each team will be ranked 1-5 within their pool, based on their accrued points.
The fifth and final session will be the championship session, where seeds No. 1 through No. 5 will be matched up across each pool.
Each match will consist of six individual matches, so the Bears will be taking an extended roster to Hockley.
Johnny Keefer will lead the way for Baylor with his 7-2-1 career match play record. Mark Reppe and Brandon Hoff will bring their six-combined match-play wins to Houston Oaks, while Luke Dossey, Scout McNealy, Zach Heffernan and Luke Morgan will be making their debuts in the match-play format.
