WACO, Texas – No. 7 Baylor volleyball swept Iowa State, 3-0, and won the series with the Cyclones on Senior Night in the Ferrell Center.

The Bears (18-5, 12-2) won the match with ISU (16-11, 8-8) in three, not letting the Cyclones score 20 points. BU won, 25-19, 25-18, 25-19.

Baylor had an almost all-senior starting lineup, with Shanel Bramschreiber, Andressa Parise, Yossiana Pressley, Hannah Sedwick, Marieke van der Mark and Emily Van Slate.

All 11 of BU’s seniors saw playing time, with AJ Koele recording a kill, Bri Coleman serving in all three sets, and Callie Williams serving and setting in two of the three. Preslie Anderson and Avery Skinner also saw action in all three sets.

Lauren Harrison also got the start, with she and Lauren Briseño being the only non-seniors who saw playing time. Harrison had a huge impact on the match, leading the team with 18 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE
Baylor started off the match and the set on a three-point run, thanks to a kill from Pressley and Harrison and an Iowa State error. The Bears went up 6-2, then Iowa State went on a run of their own to make it 7-6. BU made it 9-6 with a Parise and Skinner block. Back-to-back service hours changed the score to 11-9. It was 12-12 on a ball handling error, then Harrison made it 14-14. Staying in close range, Skinner upped the Bears’ lead to 20-17, where Iowa State called timeout. She’d serve five times in a row overall, with an ace in the middle. The end of her run was at 23-18, but Harrison came right back with a kill. AJ Koele ended the set with a kill just after subbing in, 25-19.

SET TWO
The Bears saw an ace from Pressley to keep momentum rolling and have a score of 3-2 early. Skinner delivered a kill to make it 6-6, then Sedwick served up an ace. Pressley had an emphatic kill at 8-7, then the bears went up to 11-8 off two Harrison kills. Iowa State called for a pause and came back in with a kill. Harrison, Sedwick and Skinner went on a run of three for the Bears, with Skinner’s kill being successfully challenged by Ryan McGuyre to get the point at 15-9. A kill by Pressley extended the lead to 18-12, with ISU calling timeout. Harrison again went on a rampage, recording three more kills in the rest of the set. Hannah Sedwick was the one to end the frame with a kill at 25-18.

SET THREE
The third set started off with Pressley recording a kill, then Harrison. Skinner recorded a kill after service and attack errors to make it 6-4. Harrison went on a tear once again, scoring three of the next eight points before Iowa State called timeout at 11-7 after a Pressley kill. Preslie Anderson and Hannah Sedwick delivered a block out of the pause, then Harrison and Anderson would both record kills for it to be 14-9. Skinner made it 15-10, with two Pressley kills following it up for the Cyclones to call another timeout at 18-12. Another Harrison kill had the Bears continuing the lead at 19-13. Anderson made it 21-15, with BU not looking back. Parise and van der Mark recorded kills, the score then 24-17. Marieke van der Mark delivered the final blow at 25-19.

QUOTABLE – Head coach Ryan McGuyre
“Great atmosphere and fun night celebrating the seniors, but Lauren Harrison stole the show with an impressive offensive performance. Our defense came to play and I thought we did a good job slowing down a strong ISU team.”
