THE RUNDOWN
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Baylor women’s golf finished in 14th place in the 2021 NCAA Championship with a four-round total of 30-over-par 1,182. The Bears shot 3-over 291 in Monday’s final round of stroke play at Grayhawk Golf Club, which was the sixth-best score of the 15 teams remaining in the field.



Baylor (+30) recorded its fourth top-15 finish in the last six NCAA Championships. The Bears had never finished top-15 nationally prior to their runner-up finish at the 2015 NCAA Championship.



Stanford (-10), Duke (+3), Oklahoma State (+5), Ole Miss (+7), Texas (+9), Auburn (+18), Arizona State (+21) and Arizona (+21) finished top-8 to advance to match play. LSU (+22) and Florida State (+22) tied for ninth, followed by Oregon (+23), Wake Forest (+26), South Carolina (+28), Baylor (+30) and UCLA (+37). Nine more teams were cut from the initial 24-team field following Sunday’s third round.



Baylor’s best final-round score came from Gurleen Kaur, who made five birdies on her way to a 4-under 68. Kaur led the team and tied for 28th place at 4-over 292. Elodie Chapelet and Rosie Belsham both shot 2-over 74 in the final round, with Chapelet finished tied for 32nd place at 5-over 293 and Belsham tied for 53rd place at 10-over 298. Britta Snyder had the final counting score at 3-over 75 to tie for 59th place at 11-over 299, and Hannah Karg shot 8-over 80 to take 79th place at 27-over 315.



This marked the second time in Kaur’s career that she posted Baylor’s best score at an NCAA Championship. She tied for seventh place individually as the Bears tied for eighth place as a team in the 2018 NCAA Championship at Karsten Creek.



Four of the five members of the Baylor lineup will return for the 2021-22 season, including a strong trio of rising sophomores in Snyder, Belsham and Karg. The 2022 and 2023 NCAA Championships will return to Grayhawk Golf Club, where the four returning Bears now have four tournament rounds of experience.



STAT OF THE DAY

5 – Kaur has shot par or better in five of eight career NCAA Championship rounds, and her 4-under 68 in Monday’s final round tied the second-best NCAA Championship round in program history. She also shot 68 in the final round of the 2018 NCAA Championship.

“We were deserving to be here with the great season we had,” head coach Jay Goble said. “I’m really excited for this team to be able to compete here at Grayhawk. I do wish we had a few more rounds we could’ve played at Regionals to get us ready for this event, because I think we came out a little rusty, but for us to get to play all four rounds of stroke play at the NCAA Championship was great. We have a very young team that will get to see this course again, so that will be to our advantage to have that experience going into the next two NCAA Championships at Grayhawk. The future is bright, and I’m excited for this team that had a great year, won a school-record six times and had a scoring average under-par for the year. They’re a fantastic group.”



WHAT’S NEXT

Baylor will return four of the five members of their 2021 NCAA Championship lineup. Gurleen Kaur will take advantage of the fifth year of eligibility granted by the NCAA to compete again in 2021-22, while Britta Snyder, Rosie Belsham and Hannah Karg will return as sophomores.
