THE RUNDOWN
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Baylor women’s golf is tied for 22nd place after shooting 20-over-par 308 in Friday’s first round at the 2021 NCAA Golf Championship. BU was 24-over through 16 holes, but made four birdies and four pars over the final two holes to get back to 20-over.



The Bears had an afternoon tee time with strong winds for the first round, but will tee off beginning at 7:36 a.m. local time (9:36 a.m. CT) for Saturday’s second round. Four of the top five scores on Friday were posted by teams playing in the morning session. BU is currently six shots off the top-15 team cut to advance to Monday’s fourth round.



Texas (+1) leads the 24-team field, followed by Oregon (+2), Stanford (+3), Arizona (+4), Kent State (+4), Duke (+4), Wake Forest (+4), LSU (+8), Ole Miss (+8), Oklahoma State (+9), Florida State (+10), Kentucky (+11), Arizona State (+12), Michigan State (+13), Virginia Tech (+14), UCLA (+14), Michigan (+16), Auburn (+17), Maryland (+18), Georgia (+19), USC (+19), Baylor (+20), Alabama (+20) and South Carolina (+24).



Elodie Chapelet had the Bears’ best round of the day, shooting a 1-under 71 to sit in a tie for third place in the 132-player field. She was 2-over through seven holes, the made a birdie on No. 8, followed by eight consecutive pars before finishing with back-to-back birdies on No. 17 and No. 18.



Rosie Belsham made a birdie on No. 18 to finish at 6-over 78, which is tied for 96th place. Gurleen Kaur also finished with a birdie to post 7-over 79 and sit in a tie for 105th place, while Britta Snyder and Hannah Karg both shot 8-over 80 and are tied for 114th place. Kaur made the turn at even-par, while Belsham came in at even-par.



STAT OF THE DAY

4 – Baylor made four birdies on the final two holes to move from 24-over to 20-over and doubling the team total from four birdies combined over the first 16 holes.



WHAT’S NEXT

Baylor is again paired with Arizona State and Georgia for Saturday’s second round, and they’ll tee off on the back-9. Karg is up first at 9:36 a.m. CT, followed by Snyder, Kaur, Belsham and Chapelet in 11-minute intervals, respectively.
