Baylor Track & Field: Nugent Named Big 12 Athlete of the Week
Freshman from Jamaica pulled off the double win at this past weekend’s Aggie Invitational


WACO, Texas – Ackera Nugent earned her first-career Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week award, the conference office announced Wednesday.

“That’s an outstanding honor for Ackera,” head coach Todd Harbour said. “She’s had an amazing season, so we’re proud of her and ready to head into this championship season.”

Nugent pulled off the double win at this past weekend’s Aggie Invitational, posting two wind-aided marks to win the 100 meters and 100-meter hurdles. The freshman from Kingston, Jamaica, recorded 12.95 in the 100m hurdles and 11.21 in the 100 meters.

“You aren’t enough, so make room for God to do the new things He has planned for your life,” Nugent said.

Nugent, the 2021 Big 12 Indoor Outstanding Freshman of the Year, gives Baylor its 27th Big 12 outdoor award to go along with 24 indoor awards. This is the 51st weekly league honor in program history.

The Bears are on their way to the 2021 Big 12 Outdoor Championships Friday through Sunday in Manhattan, Kan.
