THE RUNDOWN

WACO, Texas – The No. 15-ranked Baylor women’s tennis team fell, 4-3, to No. 2 Texas Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center. The Longhorns beat Baylor for the second time this season, and Saturday’s match was a non-conference win for Texas.

Texas (10-1) took the doubles point with wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. Then, No. 66-ranked Peyton Stearns downed the Bears’ (11-2) Mel Krywoj in two sets to put Texas up 2-0. Baylor’s Livia Kraus won her 10th-straight match of the spring and remained undefeated with a two-set win at No. 5 to pull Baylor within one, 2-1.

After No. 5 Anna Turati beat Jessica Hinojosa in two sets to give the Longhorns a 3-1 lead, Baylor gave Texas all it could with three-set matches in the remaining singles contests. However, the Longhorns took all three for the five-point advantage.

The Longhorns also beat Baylor Jan. 24 in Austin, 4-0, for the Bears’ only other loss of the season.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Livia Kraus improved to 10-0 on the singles court and is 19-3 overall on the season.
• Kraus’ win was the 71st of her Baylor career, making her tied with Angie Shakhraichuk for second-most active wins behind Jessica Hinojosa (78).

THEY SAID IT
Baylor senior Livia Kraus on a competitive match with TCU …
“I think today was a tough match for all of us. I’m proud of the girls, they came out and fought on every single point. Especially in the last three matches, they were so tight, and the girls left it all out there. I am very proud of how it went today. For tomorrow, we just have to bounce back, learn from today, and every single match come out tomorrow and do it better. There is a lot we can improve moving forward, especially when we play Texas again in Big 12 matchups.”

WHAT’S NEXT

Baylor will look to bounce back Sunday in another non-conference match with a Big 12 opponent when the Bears host Texas Tech at Noon at the Hurd Tennis Center.
