WACO, Texas – No. 9 Baylor equestrian (0-0) will open its 2021 campaign with a road meet at No. 7 Texas A&M (1-2) Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.

After not competing in the fall, the Bears will return to action for the first time since March 7, 2020, as the remainder of the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Baylor is coming off a 5-8 season in 2019-20 and returns 19 of its 23 point-winning riders from last season, including first-team All-American Rachael Davis (flat) and Maddie Vorhies, an honorable mention selection for fences.

“We’ve got a lot of talent and a lot more depth to our team than we have historically,” said fourth-year head coach Casie Maxwell. “From a practice standpoint, we feel a whole lot deeper in all four events than we have in my time that I’ve been here at Baylor.”

BU is 2-1 all-time in season openers under Maxwell. The Bears open their season on the road for the second season in a row, after dropping a 14-5 contest last year at SMU.

Under Maxwell, the Bears have outscored their opponents 37-18 in season openers, having dominated West Texas A&M and Delaware State in the previous two victories.

Texas A&M leads the all-time series against Baylor 14-7, and the Bears will look to snap a four-meet losing streak to the Aggies on Saturday.
