THE RUNDOWN

WACO, Texas – The No. 15-ranked Baylor women’s tennis team took the doubles point and five of six singles matches Thursday at the Hurd Tennis Center and the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center for a 6-1 win over Tyler Junior College.

Baylor and Tyler JC began the match outdoors at Hurd before weather forced the final two matches to conclude in the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center. Baylor took the doubles point with wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts.

The Bears used the momentum from doubles to take the first four singles matches. Livia Kraus’ win from the No. 4 spot was the match clincher while Baylor’s Jessica Hinojosa, Kristina Sorokolet, Audrey Boch-Collins and Paula Barañano all took victories as well.

THEY SAID IT
Baylor head coach Joey Scrivano on the win over Tyler JC …
“I’m really proud of the team. The ladies came out with great focus, really good intensity. Tyler has a great team, if they weren’t a junior college they’d be a Top 40 team in college tennis. They have a lot of good players and talent, and they pushed us today.”

Baylor head coach Joey Scrivano on the development of freshman Sara Ziodato …
“Sara has had the biggest transition of anybody on our team. Coming from Italy mid-year, having to quarantine and so many adjustments for her. Credit to her, she is so resilient, so mentally tough, she’s just getting better and better, every practice, every match. We can see that she’s going to be an impact player for us, especially down the road and in the second half of the season, she’s going to be someone that is going to make a really big difference for us.”

Baylor head coach Joey Scrivano on the week-long break before next match …
“This break is really good for us. The first quarter of the season is complete. The team has done just a terrific job of playing with intensity. The tennis season is long, and for them to come out and be 10-1 is pretty darn impressive. It’s not easy winning matches, the margins are small, so this break is needed. We’re needing a little bit of mental recovery, so we’re going to use it to our advantage and get ourselves pumped up for what’s in front of us.”

WHAT’S NEXT

Baylor takes a long hiatus before beginning returning to play vs. TCU in a non-conference match, March 4, at Noon in Waco.
