A&T Sweeps NCATA Weekly Awards for Second-Consecutive Week

WACO, Texas – Baylor swept the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) weekly awards for the second-consecutive week as Kam Kitchens earned Athlete of the Week andEmily Tobin was Specialist of the Week, while Riley Chimwala was voted the Freshman of the Week for the third-straight week.

Kitchens, a sophomore top and tumbler from Kennesaw, Ga., was named the Athlete of the Week after competing in 11 heats and team event for the Bears last week. Her performance against Oregon was highlighted by a pair of 9.95 scores in the compulsory toss and open pyramid heats. She also helped Baylor to four scores of 9.85 in the compulsory pyramid, acro six-element, synchronized pyramid and synchronized toss. She also scored a 9.75 in her individual tumbling pass, the aerial.

Tobin, a sophomore from Templeton, Calif., was named the Specialist of the Week after her performance in the acro event last week. For the second-consecutive week, Tobin helped the Bears record a perfect score of 10.0 in the acro five-element and acro seven-element heats. During both heats, Tobin performs release and hand balance skills from her top position.

Chimwala, a base from Plano, Texas, competed in 10 heats and team event last week during the home win over Oregon. Chimwala was a key contributor in nine total heats that scored a 9.70 or higher against the Ducks, including a pair of perfect 10’s in the five- and seven-element acro heats. She also helped BU score a 9.95 in both the compulsory toss and inversion pyramid heats.

The No. 2-ranked Bears will begin the semifinals of the 2021 NCATA National Championships against No. 3 Oregon on Friday, April 22 at 7 p.m. CT inside the Ferrell Center.
