WACO, Texas – Baylor’s Riley Chimwala was named the NCATA Freshman of the Week, the organization announced on Thursday. Chimwala is only the second Bear to win the weekly award this season, after Bayley Humphrey earned the honor on March 4.

Chimwala, a base from Plano, Texas, had a standout performance in Baylor’s win over Hawaii Pacific on March 27. Chimwala competes in nine different heats and her week was highlighted by a 9.90 in the acro seven-element and a 9.85 in the inversion pyramid. She also had a pair of 9.80 scores in the compulsory toss and acro five-element. In addition, during team event Chimwala is a base in an acro sequence, a mid-level in a pyramid segment, and is a side base during two tosses.

The No. 2-ranked Bears will play at East Texas Baptist tonight at 6 p.m. in Marshall, Texas.
