IRVING, Texas – Baylor redshirt junior Gurleen Kaur has been named Big 12 Women’s Golfer of the Month, as announced Wednesday by the conference office. Kaur becomes the 10th player in program history to win the award and the first since Amy Lee in 2016.

Kaur shared the award with Kansas State’s Reid Isaac after they were co-medalists at the Schooner Fall Classic. Kaur’s efforts helped the Bears claim a dominating 31-stroke victory over a field that included all nine Big 12 teams.

The Houston native was the only player to shoot below-par in all three rounds, with scores of 69-69-67. She recorded a 54-hole total of 205, which was third-best in program history. That number led the Baylor team to a new school-record 54-hole total at 7-under-par 833.

A two-time All-American, Kaur extended her lead on the Baylor career stroke average record, which now stands at 72.77 through 77 career rounds, .23 ahead of the previous career record 73.00 held by Hayley Davis.

The medalist honor was the second of Kaur’s career, her fourth career top-3 finish and her 11th top-10 finish. Kaur moved into a tie for ninth all-time at Baylor with her 11 career top-10 finishes, and she’s tied for 12th in program history with four career top-5 finishes.

With the win, Kaur moved up 23 spots to No. 78 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. She’s the first Baylor player invited to compete in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, with her 2020 invitation extended to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic forcing cancellation of the 2020 event.

Kaur was joined by three teammates who saw their WAGR rankings go up after the team win at the Schooner Fall Classic, with a pair of freshmen each making jumps of more than 100 spots. Redshirt freshman Hannah Karg climbed 145 spots from No. 1334 to No. 1189 with her 10th-place finish, and true freshman Britta Snyder climbed 120 spots from No. 653 to No. 533 with a third-place finish. Additionally, Elodie Chapelet moved up eight spots to No. 115 with a fifth-place finish, and freshman Rosie Belsham is now at No. 419 after a tie for 21st place.

Baylor returns to action Saturday and Sunday at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, played at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas. BU then wraps up the team portion of the fall schedule Oct. 22-23 in the Cowgirl Classic at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.
