Athletics Staff,
As we had discussed at a previous all-staff meeting the NCAA had moved the pro sports gambling proposal to a rescission period. This evening, that period closed, and the necessary two-thirds of DI schools voted to rescind the rule change. As such the proposal is defeated and all forms of betting on any NCAA-sponsored sport - amateur, collegiate, and professional - remain strictly prohibited for student-athletes and athletics department staff members.
As a reminder, the Big 12 Conference and the member institutions have partnered with U.S. Integrity to provide the monitoring software PROHIBET to play a pivotal role in preventing student-athletes, coaches, and staff (including student employees) from engaging in prohibited sports wagering activities. Baylor and the Big 12 are notified of any particular gambling activity including attempts to access sports wagering apps and websites.
If you or someone you know has a concern about a problem with gambling or a gambling addiction, please contact one of the available resources below. If you are unsure of the appropriate resource, please feel free to contact our Athletics Mental Health Services staff for assistance.
We will be providing a similar update and the resources below to student-athletes via a Teamworks communication. Please contact the Governance and Regulatory Affairs team with any questions related to sports wagering legislation. Have a great weekend!
