Good morning Everyone!
Please be reminded of the information below and the expectation that everyone REGISTER<https://forms.office.com/r/4eKuu3gvia> for at least one of the Civil Discourse sessions described below.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11 @ 8:30 AM: CIVIL DISCOURSE SESSION I with Dr. Kevin Villegas
The Public Deliberation Initiative (PDI) seeks to engage participants in constructive dialogue and deliberation that addresses important global and local issues and offers new perspectives for participants. Deliberation involves the best parts of dialogue (conversational) and debate (argument) to offer an experience where participants can learn from one another by talking through different perspectives and approaches to local and global issues and working together to come up with community action steps.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24 @ 8:30 AM: CIVIL DISCOURSE SESSION II with Dr. Kevin Villegas
“Stories contain universal themes and emotions that help people — even those who seem to have nothing in common — connect more closely. Stories can shift perspectives. Like any good novel or film, you might find that your preconceived notions about someone fade away as you listen to them tell an honest story. You find you're more alike than different.” In this session, participants share stories around a particular topic and listen to the stories of others on that same topic with an aim of fostering an environment of openness and empathy among colleagues.
REGISTER HERE<https://forms.office.com/r/4eKuu3gvia> for your preferred Civil Discourse session to ensure we have the appropriate number of facilitators for each session.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Juliana

Subject: RESPONSE NEEDED: Department-Wide Civil Discourse Sessions
Good afternoon Everyone! I appreciate your attention to the entirety of this message.
As mentioned in last week’s Staff Newsletter, we’re taking a renewed approach to Coffee & Conversation this year. As a department, we hope to equip ourselves with tools to engage one another and those in our lives with care and civility, and this year in particular around politically sensitive topics.
To that end, we will have engagement opportunities this Fall intended for staff members to walk alongside each another and communicate with care as one people. The expectation is that our entire department engages in at least one of the two civil discourse opportunities this Fall, in addition to other engagement opportunities.

Stay tuned for our Fall 2024 department-wide community service day in November as well as Angel Tree collaboration with Mission Waco in December!
Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
With deepest appreciation,
Juliana
