I’ve always enjoyed Barbara Flynn. I first saw her in Cracker in the 1990s, then the Beiderbecke Trilogy in the 1980s, and then began seeking her out in other things like Cranford. I think she got much better as she aged, but then to realize that AFAW was her first job makes a big impression. She more than held her own in such a substantial cast of actors. I last saw her in The Durrells of Corfu, made a couple of years ago, a rather reductive bit of biography. She was excellent, however. young Robert, and hands it to her father. Barbara Flynn's acting here is truly heart-breaking, and I cannot imagine how difficult it must have been to tap into this deep emotion while on camera. Surely this dramatic moment, with very real tears, was captured
in a single take because no one could have been expected to convey such profound grief more than once.</span></p>
