I've just seen this episode myself for the first time. From a technical point of view the picture quality and production is superb. The quality of the 2" Quad VT format never seeks to amaze me. It could have been a live transmission not a production made 45
years ago.

That's before passing comment on the episode itself. Outstanding performances from everyone but John Porter stole the show towards the end. Amazing edge of your seat drama. I would comment further but wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone yet to see it.

Cheers
I have to agree with this. I am a little behind with my viewing, but I just watched the episode where (SPOILER ALERT) the vindictive (Marjory Mason) finally tells her son that his wife had a man friend and became pregnant by him I have not seen a better piece
of writing and acting than this episode on TV for years (and presumably direction too but I was unaware of it -which must be good )
think all four principle actors Marjory Mason , PatrickTroughton, Ian Thompson and Lesley Nunnerly can hardly have acted better than this in their entire careers and it was set in essentially two rooms with just pairs of people talking(arguing ) but it was

As I re-watch these episodes back to back for my occasional comparisons, I am repeatedly impressed by the sheer quality of the writing, acting, and editing. For whatever production flaws obtrude (camera shadows, boom shadows), A
Family at War is THE finest British serial! Sometimes you just have to face brute facts! Mr. Finch, your place in television is secure!
