One of the most outstanding differences between Saturday as a family at war, secret army, Tenko, when the boat comes in, Sam etc, compared to modern drama is the crucial matter of rehearsal or lack of it. I know with older programmes such as our family at war is, they were produced fairly quickly but adequate rehearsal time was built in. So, the actors and directors could work out the meaning of scenes, directors could give actors noted and says to enhance performance. I think writers and producers sometimes attended such rehearsals, allowing actors to ask questions about a certain line or about their character.
