I have mentioned, The gate of a year's which is one of my favourites of the early episodes as it's the first to feature prominently both Margery Mason and Patrick Troughton, who worked so well in the show. The characters of Celia and Harry Porter were very good characters with scripting which always made their marriage and history so very real. I loved the small part played by Jessica Spencer as Connie Edwards. The filming in the baths was beautiful and Jessica's hair made her look young and was a lovely style for an older lady. What a pity those styles are not seen very much now. And the last episode of the first series, The beginning of the end. I like how sadly we see cracks developing in the loving relationship between Jean and Edward and the class difference which, up to this point I had not been hugely aware of. I love how Edward takes Jeans poetry book as she doses and reads out the poem by Siegfried Sassoon, very moving touch. Funny in the short recap at the beginning of the second series. The poem is omitted. Of the smaller parts, I liked the Warden at the education centre, nicely played by Rowena Cooper who is still with us too.
I will consider favourite episodes from series 2 and 3 later in email. I thought better to do it in sized chunks. I'd love to hear if any of you share the same favourite episodes from the first series. That would be something lovely to hear but equally I'm curious to hear of your favourites from Series One.
