Yes but with Jean losing Robert like that and rightly or wrongly blaming Edward,  it was written well, the brittleness built steadily over time, remembering that in some cases an episode progressed a month or more in real time. I think a part of the problem was that Jean always loved and cared for her brother very much, maybe it came more after losing his wife before we start the series.  I'm not saying Jean was right here, but you felt it was something she found difficult. She felt for her only brother. I felt the closeness between Sefton and Jean rather moving, more so because Sefton seemed a lonely figure much of the time.

I think it's good we have our favourite characters, storylines and viewpoints.

I liked Jean’s character at the beginning but became quite angry as she humiliated and insulted her husband more and more. Also it was obvious that she felt she had married “beneath her station” and made it quite clear to him. That touch in the will about not leaving her shares in Sefton’s will to him is particularly mean. Why did she marry him in the first place. The dementia or whatever it was didn’t start until after Robert’s death.
