[Afamilyatwar-list] Classical theme and wartime popular music

I respect some people find it difficult or emotional talking about times past. Maybe there are some unfortunate associations or things happening in the actress life at that time. I would fully respect it but I would like her to know how so many of us are helped in our daily lives by her hard work. She has left a legacy to be proud of. If she knows it helps lonely people by watching it that might be something at least she can accept and maybe help her.

I of course, as a fan have questions but the actress privacy is paramount so that's it. I'm heartened to know she is alive but sadly old age comes with multiple health problems. I will keep her in my prayers all the same.

How nice to hear at least something as I know very little about her and she may be a private person but surely if it could be passed on that we respect her feelings but let her know that her body of work is still giving pleasure .

I caught an episode of z-cars, , on YouTube recently in which Lesley played a kind social worker. She was good in that role too.

Sorry to see that Lesley Nunnerley does not enjoy speaking about her years filming 'A Family at War' because I would have to say that Margaret was my favourite character in the series.

The opening theme is taken from the first movement of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ 6th Symphony. This was actually written in 1948 and the last movement (Epilogue) is reminiscent of a bombed out wasteland, a very eerie ending to a symphony.
On another note, I have been in contact with a friend of Lesley Nunnerley (Margaret Ashton Porter) who tells me that Lesley has turned 90 this year and is not enjoying good health at the moment. I was in contact with Lesley a number of years ago but I have not had any response to messages. She does not like talking about her AFAW days, which is a great pity!

I'm not really a classical music buff but I do like the theme music, particularly the opening theme and the simple titles with the sandcastle was so appropriate for the opening and close.

Also like how we hear wartime tunes peppered through the episodes. I remember Sefton singing along to ' we hang out the washing on the Sigfrid line, have you any dirty washing mother dear ' and we hear a bit of Gracie fields on the radio in an episode too.
