Evening all,
My wife and I are again enjoying the re-run of Family At War on Talking Pictures having first viewed it upon release when we were teenagers in the early 70s and again just a few years ago.I love the quality of the writing and acting and the dynamic of domestic upheaval set against the backdrop of war. But I felt compelled to write after watching 'Breaking Point'...can anyone help me with thie following query?Much, of course, has happened since the series was filmed but does anyone know the location for the airfield scenes? And I'm intrigued by the collection of American B-17 (I think) bombers, dressed in RAF livery. No CGI in those days and they were too impressive to be models, surely?Did we really have Fortress bombers on hand for filming in the UK 50 years ago? Any answers.much appreciated and my belated thanks to John Finch and his team plus the entire cast and crew for such a wonderful slice of British television drama.
Best regards Bill Bradshaw
PS Was the young lad who played Margaret and John Porter's son allowed to improvise ....he looks such a natural!
