I agree with Sarah: Jean the most and Sefton the least.
As Karen pointed out Jean lost her son, which contributed to the deterioration of her marriage and her death. Second place would be more difficult to pick: Edwin? John? Margaret?
Apart from Tony’s absence, Sefton’s thick skin, underdeveloped conscience and wealth meant the war wasn’t much more than an inconvenience to him. His financial troubles after the war were caused by poor judgment rather than the war. For second place, I’d pick Tony.
