I was given a set of the series Public Eye (Alfred Burke plays the main character, an enquiry agent, or private detective)for Christmas, and he turns up in an episode from 1968 called The Bromsgrove Venus. 

He plays a gay librarian, though of course that is never quite stated, but he wears a silk dressing gown, likes Japanese decor and is visited at home by an older, well-dressed man. I don’t know how controversial such a character would have been at that time, but after the law change in 1967 perhaps just a bit.

I must say, he looks very young!
