They're usually called Episodes or Parts, the latter in later years, I think from 1979.
Earlier William Hartnell Dr Who stories has individual titles for each episode although part of a collective story, eg the first story was collectively known as, "An Unearthly Child" but the other episodes had individual titles, eg: The Cave of Skulls and The Firemaker.
By 1966 the individual titles were dropped in favour of, eg The War Machines Episode 1 etc.
Patrick Troughton made Dr Who in my humble opinion. The first season Jon Pertwee episodes were good too. It slowly went downhill after that apart from the occasional good story.
Indeed Colin Douglas dominates every scene he's in. Only recently discovered he played a police commander in early episodes of, "The Sweeney" including the story "Contact Breaker" which also featured a guest appearance from Coral Atkins, though they didn't appear together in the episode.
I think Colin's last role was in the drama, "GBH" from 1990, playing a disgruntled Labour party member set in Liverpool.

That was the other segment in which Colin Douglas appeared. BTW, what are these extended arcs (say, 6 episodes) properly called? Stories? Adventures? Mr. Douglas certainly dominates any scene he’s in! Big frame, commanding presence!

I’m not very knowledgeable about Doctor Who, but did see The Horror of Fang Rock, in which Colin Douglas appears as (I think) a lighthouse keeper, when it was shown on the Drama channel a couple of years ago.
The episode features some lines from the poem Flannan Isle by Wilfrid Gibson, one of the Dymock Poets, who are one of my interests :)

Harry Porter (Patrick Troughton) exits the TARDIS as the Second Doctor Who in...Australia??? Say G’day! And meets his nemesis, Edwin Ashton, erm, Donald Bruce (Colin Douglas) just 2 years before AFAW! Soon they’ll be casting Jean Ashton in...Star Wars??? This all happens in a beautifully restored BBC Doctor Who DVD, The Enemy of the World, from late 1967.
David Lynch is right...we all live inside a dream. Donald Trump IS the Enemy of the World: Salamander!
