“With a little bit o’ luck” I’m able to watch this segment because Amazon Prime has the entire series. Given the 1959 date, this is early in Douglas’s career when he’s still “third passenger on the right” or “lab assistant”; his film credits list 157 films, so starting with bit parts is how everyone does it. Burt Lancaster started out playing an Indian!
His role here is minuscule—he’s the driver for the bad guys, and he has a few words to speak, but his “stature” is still undeniable. The shock is ... he has hair! This is like seeing James Gandolfini (another big actor) early in The Sopranos...with hair!
This Invisible Man series seems to have been transmitted at the same time as the beginning of Doctor Who, so there must have been some appetite for science fiction to attract viewers young and, well, less young. This was the same time as Quatermass and the early Hammer films.

Talking Pictures TV is a gem, though they do show some odd things as well. Last night they showed a 1966 film, Death Is A Woman, with Wanda Ventham (Jenny in AFAW), which was a bit strange, from the five minutes of it we saw.
