Sounds great Richard. Indeed the names John Finch and HV Kershaw are worth buying alone.
I see the Network 5 disc edition was issued in 2016. Interesting the timings between this and the earlier Acorn release are the same which works out each episode is approximately 51 minutes long.
Best wishes and thanks again.

Thanks, Brian, for this interesting post. THE SPOILS OF WAR is a very fine series that any fan of "A Family at War" will enjoy. In terms of story line, the two series are not related in any way, but there are several other connections.
For one thing, of course, John Finch was the creator and principal writer of both. (That, in itself, spells excellence.) For another, Harry V. Kershaw was one of the other screenwriters in both. You may recall that he wrote "For Strategic Reasons" on A FAMILY AT WAR.
Moreover, I compared the two cast lists and found that six actors appeared in both series:
George Cooper (Councillor Dewsbury in one episode of A FAMILY AT WAR) is Sir Thomas Dugdale in one episode of THE SPOILS OF WAR.
Alick Hayes (Doctor Willy in two episodes of A FAMILY AT WAR) is A Priest in one episode of THE SPOILS OF WAR.
Anne Kristen (Marjorie, John's extra-marital love interest, in four episodes of A FAMILY AT WAR) is Sally McAllister in two episodes of THE SPOILS OF WAR.
Harry Markham (An air-raid warden in one episode of A FAMILY AT WAR) is Moxon in one episode of THE SPOILS OF WAR.
Catherine Schell (Erika, Philip's former girlfriend, in one episode of A FAMILY AT WAR) is Paula Brandt in ten episodes of THE SPOILS OF WAR.
Bill Waddington (An ARP report and control worker in four episodes of A FAMILY AT WAR) is Harry Dobey in one episode of THE SPOILS OF WAR.
Most important among them is Catherine Schell, who played an important role in A FAMILY AT WAR's "Two Fathers" episode, and then was a major character in THE SPOILS OF WAR.
As for the total timings of THE SPOILS OF WAR, Amazon shows the Network DVD set to be 1024 minutes, which is identical to the listed timings on the three boxes in my Acorn set.

Very interesting Scott, thanks for the link.
Just ordered the Network DVD of, "The Spoils of War" which they've reduced from £22 to under £14 (including VAT).
I knew of the series at the time of broadcast but never watched it for some reason, might have clashed with a programme on another channel I don't know.
I'll certainly review my findings when I receive the 5 DVD set.
Odd how Network have released this and not AFAW or Sam. Hopefully that'll change in the future.
