I just watched the episode "Lend Your Loving Arms," at the very end of which a War Office telegram arrives at the Ashton household. (SPOILER ALERT) Freda opens the envelope, reads the devastating message about young Robert, and hands it to her father. Barbara Flynn's acting here is truly heart-breaking, and I cannot imagine how difficult it must have been to tap into this deep emotion while on camera. Surely this dramatic moment, with very real tears, was captured in a single take because no one could have been expected to convey such profound grief more than once.
