That’s the frustrating thing for all us Yanks (I apologize for the breakaway—we really have not behaved at all decently): missing the wonderful work these actors did either on stage or on British TV when the BBC recorded over so much tape so that copies go missing). I’ve “discovered” so many thrilling talents by watching old series—e.g., AFAW, The Pallisers, the original Forsyte Saga, early Doctor Who—and wind up wishing for more. Patrick Troughton had just come out of 3 years as the Second Doctor before his quiet and extremely effective role in AFAW. Ah, to be in England, now that Donald Trump is here (see what I mean by behaving badly?). I need to take a Z-Car to Coronation Street; I don’t care whether I live Upstairs or Downstairs....

I'm always interested in what people did before and after AFAW, and found Shelagh's obituary. I knew she must have had a distinguished career - and it was, also very varied.

She was born in the same year as my mother.
